WEIGHTLIFTING FOR OSTEOPOROSIS
Osteoblast Classes
Our classes are designed and led by doctors of physical therapy to teach you how to lift weights safely. Lifting weights is a well-researched way to load your bones in order to regain density.
These classes were designed one day when a patient complained of her Osteoporosis medication and the side effects she was experiencing. She decided to stop taking her medication, with approval from her physician, and worked with us to learn how to lift. After about a year of lifting, she had improvement in her DEXA scan results.
As more women joined the class, we have seen great success with not only DEXA scan results but improved function overall. This is not just a class, it has become a community of strong, motivated women.
Osteoblast Class: Foundations
Our foundations program is designed to introduce you to weightlifting form and technique. These sessions are one-on-one with one of our doctors of physical therapy. These sessions are designed to:
introduce weightlifting techniques
educate you on movements that should be cautioned against with osteoporosis
improve your balance to reduce your fall risk
After successful completion of these foundations sessions, we have membership class options to continue to increase your loading.
These sessions may be covered by your physical therapy benefits through insurance. The number of sessions needed are individual to you and your PT.
